PROJECT: Humans and the Cell Cycle
Humans use both Mitosis and Meiosis in their lifetime. You are to create a presentation as if you were a teacher using PowerPoint/Google Slides, or any other tools (as long as you get the okay from your teacher) that shows how we as humans use the cell cycle as a species to be born, grow, survive and reproduce.
You will be provided a test that you as the teacher would give your students. Ensure your presentation covers that material. NOTE - is doesn't have to be overt.
Following will guide you toward success.
You will be provided a test that you as the teacher would give your students. Ensure your presentation covers that material. NOTE - is doesn't have to be overt.
Following will guide you toward success.
1) DO review the test questions first before you start.
2) DO make a list of definitions first. Use the glossary in the text or the glossary on my Homepage.
3) DO Find images that work for your definitions.
4) DO be thorough – think of this as a way to create a cheat sheet /review sheet for the upcoming unit final.
5) DO provide a written response to the question 'How do humans use both meiosis and mitosis in their lifetime?'
6) DO complete the quiz provided on a scantron and indicate on the test itself where in your project the answer can be found.
7) DO provide a references.
8) DO use images that are appropriate AND support the information you are presenting.
9) DON’T simply go through the test questions and answer them, rather create a plan that brings all of the concepts together.
10) DON’T waste time on background colours, transitions or fancy fonts, etc. as you will NOT get graded on this.
Following are key points that MUST be covered in your presentation! (Note the list is not exhaustive, feel free to add more)
Your grade will be based on the above components and your displayed understanding of the key question using the 6-point scale that we use in class.

Following are key points that MUST be covered in your presentation! (Note the list is not exhaustive, feel free to add more)
- DNA – Chromatin – Chromosome – Karyotype
- DNA - Genes - RNA - Proteins
- The cell cycle – with key stages and terms
- Mutations
- Asexual reproduction – advantages and disadvantages
- Mitosis – with key stages and terms
- Cloning (think asexual preproduction and human assisted cloning (reproductive and therapeutic)
- Meiosis – with key stages and terms
- Sexual reproduction (incl internal / external)
- Zygote - Morela - Blastula - Gastrula - embryo (embryotic development) - fetus (fetal development)
- And the big one! Prepare a response slide showing connection of the above in paragraph form that answers the question … “How do we as humans use both meiosis and mitosis in our lifetimes?
Your grade will be based on the above components and your displayed understanding of the key question using the 6-point scale that we use in class.
